Every organization has them: the concern that never got raised, the idea that never left a notebook, the warning that arrived after the damage was done. When employees stay quiet, companies pay for it in missed opportunities, slow problems, and quiet resignations.
Unmuted Workplaces exists to lower the cost of speaking up. We help organizations replace fear and politeness theater with honest, productive conversation — at every level of the company.
Unmuted Workplaces began in 2019, after our founders sat through one too many meetings where the real conversation happened afterward, in the hallway. We started asking a simple question: what would it take for the hallway conversation to happen in the room?
A single voice workshop for a 40-person team in Tacoma. By the end of the quarter, that team's retrospectives ran twice as long — because people finally had things to say.
Word traveled. We grew into a team of facilitators, coaches, and researchers serving organizations across the Pacific Northwest, from startups to school districts.
We've now worked with more than 140 organizations and trained over 12,000 employees — and we still start every engagement by listening first.
Honesty without empathy is just bluntness. We teach people to say hard things in ways that strengthen relationships instead of straining them.
The loudest person in the room is rarely the wisest. We treat listening as a skill to be practiced, measured, and rewarded.
Psychological safety can't be reserved for senior staff. The intern's question and the executive's doubt deserve the same hearing.
Asking for feedback and ignoring it is worse than never asking. We hold ourselves and our clients to visible follow-through.
